What's New Page:

Getting back at it

Finally, warm weather is not too far off.  My dad has been busy for the past 5 months or so, so he hasn't came over as much as planned- or as much as i'd like, but the warmer weather is almost here.  I also started a new job 6 months ago that has been keeping me pretty busy, so I have not had the amount of time in the garage as I was once used to.

Starting next weekend, we will be back at it and working on several things in the near future.  The fenders and running boards are pretty much installed, but we still need to remove the running boards and the front fenders to touch up the frame rails and shoot a few coats of clear.  We did it this way so we wouldn't have to wait til this time of year to paint it, then still have to drill all the holes for mounting.

Still need to finish the wiring, but I do not have everything I need, like the alternator, dome light, license plate light, and thanks to me braking the electric cooling fan, we need another one of those too.

All wires are at least ran to where they need to be, and basically just need connected, so the worst part of it is over. Wasn't too long ago that the entire harness was laying on the garage floor to put the wires in order.  This is the first car I have ever wired, but looking back at even the worst part of it so far, it has actually been fun.

Still having trouble finding the original style window molding for the back and side quarter windows, and one window channel for the left door.  Once this and the above things are completed, it will be about time for the interior shop.

BTW- Also, although not a major deal, but I have finally laid my piece of shit polaroid 1.2 MP camera to rest.  Pics will now be taken with a HP Photosmart M417 5.2 MP.  It should serve my needs well.

It's finally that time!

For awhile now, I have been saving for a 427 SC Cobra replica.  That has given me alot of time to research the various companies that produce a Cobra.  There were a few that immediately stood out, then I had to eliminate them one by one for various reasons.  It seems every kit manufacturer has it's list of pros and cons, as you will never find one that does absolutely everything the way you'd want it.

Theres many manufacturers that offer a "turn key" car that is basically ready to drive, but not only do I not have 35K layin' around to fund it, I want to build it myself, as that is half the fun.  Kind of like putting an intricate large scale model together that you can actually drive.  It also gives you the opportunity to build the car exactly how you want it.

After alot of research, and riding in one that was powered by a built 460, I decided on a Shell Valley Cobra.  My plan was to purchase the bare body and chassis, and start from there, but after thinking about it for awhile, I decided to skip the body for now and order a more complete chassis instead for a couple reasons.  One being with an immobile chassis sitting on jackstands in one bay, and the 32' in the other bay, I really dont have room for the body.  Once the chassis is complete, the body will be ordered.

February 17th was a great day!  Not only was it a Friday, it was an approved day off too.  I awoke to a full pot of coffee, sat here at the desk for awhile going over a few last minute details, then called and ordered the chassis.  The only bad thing is unless I want to drive 812 miles each way and pay 5.5% sales tax on the initail purchase, I have to wait until June 23-25.  There is a MAJOR Cobra show 40 minutes away in London, Ohio that is a charity event for Cystic Fibrosis.  For a $10 donation and your signature on a waiver, you can blast through the center of town- a 25 MPH speed zone, at 100 miles per hour.  It is a ride you will truly never forget.  I have been to the last two of them, and this year, I will go not only to take a few rides, but to bring my rolling chassis home.

Although not my pic, heres a Shell Valley chassis that looks alot like what I am getting, although in this pic, they already have the wheels/tires that will be used on the car.  Mine will arrive on wheels with tires that hold air that will allow the chassis to be moved around. LOL

One more thing- I mentioned on the home page that this site will eventually be replaced as I cannot change the domain name.  I would expect that by the end of this year anyway, possibly in August or so.
